Booking a Routine Appointment

For routine appointments please book online* or by calling 0121 472 0129. 

Our Reception Team will ask you questions about your symptoms to signpost you to the best service.  

Our routine appointments are bookable up to 2 weeks in advance with new appointments being released at 7am online and at 8am via the telephone.

*Appointments are bookable, viewable, amendable and cancel online, please request this facility via the NHS App if you have not already done so.

Appointments available to our patients are via face to face consultations, telephone consultations, video consultations and also via our Hub Practice. 

Booking an Urgent Appointment

If you feel you need to see a doctor urgently please phone as early as possible as appointments on the day will be given on a first come, first served basis.

Please make the receptionist aware that you feel the problem is urgent – you will be asked to disclose the nature of the medical emergency by our reception team who inform the On Call GP. This information is used to prioritise appointments based on medical need. Failure to disclose this information may cause a delay in the GP contacting you. Feel assured our team are trained in confidentiallity and sharing of information is on a need to know basis only. 

Extended Access - Evenings & Weekends

Bournbrook Varsity Medical Centre is a part of the Edgbaston Primary Care Network (PCN) and can offer evening and weekend face to face GP, Nurse and Healthcare Assistant appointments at Harborne Medical Practice. The extended hours appointments will be booked by our reception staff as usual but patients will be seen at Harborne Medical Practice.  The addresses and telephone number to ring if you needed to cancel or change an appointment is:

Home Visits

Telephone requests before 10.00am please.

Home visits are for patients who are too ill or infirmed to attend the surgery. Please give the receptionist as much detail as possible so that the doctor can prioritise the visits.

Please note that home visits take up to five times longer than if you come to the centre.

Cancel an Appointment

It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters maybe removed from the list.

Text Reminder Service

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.

To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.

Please remember to update your contact details with us when you change address, telephone numbers and email address.

Late For Your Appointment

Please attend your appointment on time, if you are late you may not be seen. If you are not seen you will not be able to rearrange your appointment until the next working day-except in the event of an medical emergency that requires immediate attention.


If you require an interpreter to attend with you when you see your Doctor please notify the receptionist and they will arrange this for you.

Training Practice

We are a training practice and you may be offered an appointment with a GP registrar. These doctors are fully qualified will have had experience in several hospital specialties. They are completing their specialist training as a GP.

We also teach medical students and sometimes you may be asked to see the doctor or nurse with a student present. You will always be asked beforehand if this is acceptable and you may ask for the student to withdraw if you prefer to have your consultation in private.
