Patients aged 2 & 3 Years
This year children aged two and three years of age are being offered a vaccine against flu. As I am sure you are aware flu can be a nasty illness. Protecting your child can reduce the likelihood of your child catching flu and will stop them from spreading this to other children and family members, in particular grandparents, who may be particularly at risk.
We are holding clinics on the following dates for children’s vaccinations:
- Monday 18th September
- Tuesday 19th September
- Saturday 23rd September
- Monday 25th September
- Tuesday 26th September
- Wednesday 27th September
- Friday 29th September
- Friday 6th October
- Friday 13th October
The child vaccination is a safe and effective nasal spray vaccine called Fluenz Tetra (LAIV) which protects under 18’s against flu. The vaccine is the most effective vaccine for children and is easy to give and painless.
Please telephone the surgery on 0121 472 0129 to make an appointment into a clinic and let the receptionist know it is for a “children’s flu vaccination”.
There is an alternative vaccine for children without the porcine gelatine content- let Reception know at time of booking appointment.
For more information on this please go to: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/vaccinations/child-flu-vaccine/

Newly Registered Patients
ONLY THE PATIENTS MOST AT RISK are eligible for a flu vaccination.
As you are new to us, we have not yet received your medical records; therefore you must provide us with the following, or we will NOT be able to vaccinate you.
- Confirmation from your previous GP that you fall into the “AT RISK GROUP”. Arrange for them to e-mail us at request.bournbrook@nhs.net.
- If relevant, confirmation that you regularly use inhaled or swallowed steroids, for any condition, including Asthma. Note: If you do have asthma and only use Salbutamol / or Ventolin inhalers then you DO NOT qualify. You must have had “Steroids” in the past 12 months and can prove this to us.
Steroid examples:
Beclomethasone, Clenil, Qvar, Budesonide, Pulmicort, Symbicort, Fluticasone, Flixotide, Seretide, Prednisilone
Flu vaccine eligibility: medical conditions
The seasonal flu vaccine is offered free of charge to anyone who is over six months of age and has one of the following medical conditions:
- chronic (long-term) respiratory disease, such as asthma needing steroids, COPD or bronchitis
- chronic heart disease including heart failure and chronic heart and vascular disease including stroke and TIA
- chronic kidney disease
- chronic liver disease
