Meningitis B vaccination queries
Meningitis B vaccination queries
As a result of the widespread coverage of the Meningitis B outbreak in Kent, we are receiving a lot of queries from patients asking for vaccination for themselves or their children.
Please see below a summary of the available vaccines that can support with protecting against Meningitis:
Meningitis B vaccine - offered to babies at 8, 12 and 16 weeks, available up to the age of 2 years. We do not provide vaccinations for Meningitis B to those over age 2, unless instructed by consultants for at risk patients e.g. post stem cell transplant.
Meningitis ACWY vaccine - offered through schools at age 13-14 years (Year 9), available to the age of 25 years. If your medical record shows you have not had this vaccine, we can book you in for it if you are eligible and under 25 years old.
We are unable to offer you a Meningitis vaccine if you do not meet the NHS criteria as stated above. If this guidance changes we will be in touch with the eligible cohorts.
It is very important that you seek urgent medical advice if you think you have symptoms of Meningitis. Please read this link for more information https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/meningitis/
